So I signed up for "I Challenge You" :  I Challenge You v.2 - 12 hours left!Hello everyone,
Welcome to a second edition of a brand new art challenge courtesy of your Community Volunteers. We present to you a revised version of the last "I Challenge You" contest wherein this time you will not be paired with other deviants but rather you will work individually and be challenged by a Community Volunteer! We hope this will help get you out of your comfort zone and practice your creative skills, this time on a very individualistic level.
How it works:
Step 1
Leave a comment on this journal with: the specific art medium you'd like to be challenged within, and a list of things you refuse to create. Do not include any other information, this is all we require from you.
>Please try to keep the list short of your objections, it should only be things you truly object to creating.
>You may choose only 1 type of art medium to be challenged within. Please choose from the list below.

Example: Digital Art>Photomanipulation

"I challenge you to craft a piece inspired by art nouveau."

Art Nouveau was a period of art I fell in love with when I was doing both my GCSE and A levels in pottery and art in general. Its a love that remains to this day so I was utterly thrilled to have this come up as my challenge. But it took a day or so to decide what I wanted to do. Art Nouveau to me is sweeping curves, organic forms, rich colour. The curves were the first thing that I thought of, and I got stuck on for a while, and the only thing I could think of was the leaf forms in a shawlette I posted not so long ago.

But what challenge is there in remaking something I have just done? None whatsoever. So I used it as a search term and almost instantly hit upon the answer. The recurring motif of the crescent border with motifs within, more often than not circles or crescents themselves as you can see in these examples.

Instantly I knew what I wanted to make. It was knit, a shawl in a crescent shape with lace motifs that echoed this trend in Art Nouveau portraits. I wanted strong colours that shifted organically, and already had the perfect yarn in my possession. And here I am with the finished shawl. I am so pleased with the result, especially after finishing with only 2 feet of yarn left over!

I am debating whether to put the shawl up for sale or not, perhaps after my holiday, but for now I just wanted to get my entry in properly.
